Person of the Week: Al CappD.I.N. - Al Capp is one of the few people in history who have been able to anger and offend both the Communists and the Capitalists. Capp's social commentary in comic form, "The Life and Times of the Shmoo", is a flat out satire of human nature, Marxists and Capitalists alike. His unique perspective that the selfless little creatures would be perceived as "a detriment to Hoomanity" is a bitter take on the way humans abuse resources in a cold-blooded search for fiscal gain. This can be interpreted as both Western Capitalist greed, as represented by the "shmoo hunters", and a parody of Marxism, as represented by the idealistic, naïve natures of the shmoos that are readily taken advantage of. DIS would like to give fervent tip of our hat to Capp, as it takes nothing short of a stroke of genius to offend both sides. Al Capp, we salute you.
